Biography

Sarah-Jane Perry has established herself as England's best player in recent seasons and broke into the top five of the world rankings for the first time in the summer of 2020.

 

Birmingham-born Perry made her Tour breakthrough in 2011 when she beat Tania Bailey in the Manor Open final to win her first Tour title. She won three more titles a year later and finished 2012 in the top 30 in the world, having jumped more than 35 places in the world rankings since the start of the year. Perry clinched her fifth Tour title at the Delaware Open in February 2013 and followed that up with two more title wins before a trophy drought that would last two years.

 

However, Perry returned to form in February 2015 and beat Dipika Pallikal in the Granite Open final to claim her first PSA W25 title just weeks after winning her first British National Championship title. Perry earned two second-place finishes at the NetSuite Open and the Monte Carlo Classic throughout 2015 and picked up one of the biggest wins of her career when she beat Malaysian superstar Nicol David in the quarter-finals of the Al Ahram Open in September 2016 in front of the magnificent Great Pyramid of Giza.

 

Perry then made three successive semi-final appearances at the Carol Weymuller Open, JP Morgan Tournament of Champions and Cleveland Classic. England's Perry also finished second at the British Open, where she faced fellow Brit Laura Massaro in the first all-English final since 1991.

 

She also helped England triumph in the women's final of the European Team Championships by beating French No. 3 Camille Serme for the second time in her career. The start of the 2017/18 season was good for Perry, as she won the Oracle NetSuite Open, beating Nicol David in the final in San Francisco.

 

She started 2018 with three successive quarter-final appearances, at the PSA Masters, Tournament of Champions and Cleveland Classic. This was followed by qualifying for the last four of the UK National Championships and the Windy City Open. Perry won the silver medal at the Commonwealth Games, losing to Joelle King in the final. In October, the Englishwoman retained her Oracle NetSuite Open title by beating Raneem El Welily in the final.

 

After her victory in San Francisco, Perry became England's No. 1. She then finished second in the Carol Weymuller Open, losing to Nour El Tayeb in the final. A few weeks later, Perry reached the semi-finals of the Hong Kong Open. The Englishwoman then took some time off to recover from surgery on her right arm, returning three months later to the World Championships in Chicago. She then reached the quarter-finals in four consecutive events, before taking another step at the British Open in Hull.

 

Perry has maintained that consistent form, reaching at least the quarter-finals in every event she entered during the 2019-20 season. This run included semi-final appearances at the French Open - Nantes, Windy City Open and Black ball Open, while the Englishwoman also qualified for the final of two Bronze level tournaments, the Cleveland Classic and the Bahl and Gaynor Cincinnati Cup.

 

The English No. 1 qualified for the semi-finals of the Manchester Open in her first appearance after the return of the PSA World Tour. After a surprising early exit at the CIB Egyptian Open, the Englishwoman went on to claim the biggest victory of her career by winning the title at the CIB Black Ball Squash Open. She came after two matches to defeat defending champion Hania El Hammamy in the final in Cairo.

 

The Englishwoman followed that with quarter-final appearances at the CIB PSA Black Ball Squash Open and the El Gouna International Squash Open to start 2021, before finishing second at the Manchester Open in August. Perry also made the semifinals of the Oracle NetSuite Open at the start of the 2021-22 season.

 

Perry started 2022 with a second-place finish at the Cleveland Classic, before quarter-final appearances at the CIB Black Ball Open and the Allam British Open. The Englishwoman then reached another final, this time on home soil at the Manchester Open, before also advancing to the last eight at the CIB PSA World Championships and the El Gouna International. Once again she represented England at the Commonwealth Games, winning the women's singles bronze medal in Birmingham.

 

Perry was consistent towards the end of 2022, as she reached the quarter-finals of four tournaments. The Englishwoman has done so at the CIB Egyptian Open, Barfoot & Thompson New Zealand Open, MARIGOLD Singapore Squash Open and Everbright Securities International Hong Kong Squash Open.

 

She was also part of the English duo, alongside Mohamed ElShorbagy, who won the inaugural Carrus Nations Cup in New Zealand, beating the hosts in the final in Tauranga.
